Weekend Getaway in Kyiv

Weekend Getaway in Kyiv

Last weekend I got the chance to be in Kyiv for a conference, related to my job and I took the opportunity as a chance to explore the city for the first time as well.

The weather though was definitely not on our side – we were there for the weekend only and it rained continuously going from a very light rain to a heavy shower 😀 and it only stopped about 4-5h prior to our departure. Seeing that, we hopped on the chance to explore the city and see the surroundings.

The atmosphere in the city was calm and we explored some tourist attractions. We went to the Maidan Square, the Sophia cathedral & Square, Andriyivskyy Descent. The boulevard that leads to the Maidan Square is closed on the weekend, so there’s a lot of people doing various activities. The square near Sophia’s Cathedral and the descent have more of an European style architecture that is great to see in Kyiv.

While being in Kyiv, I also did somewhat of a short Gastrotour 😀 Here are a few places I’ve been to & my thoughts / recommendations on them:

    • Lucky 13 – a good pub to share a beer with friends & watch football

  • Pervak – a restaurant with an antique vibe and European & Ukranian dishes

  • Salateira – a Salad Bar where you can choose from a great variety of salads and pasta – there are a lot yummy combinations

  • Lkafa – a cafe with a big variety of cuisine and pretty accessible as a price

  • Lyubov Morcovi – an unusual place with a great name. Their speciality is waffles and I really like the one I tried (see the pic below)

  • Roshen Shop
  • Dogs & Tails – by far, my favourite place that I discovered in Kyiv. It has an industrial / modern design, a big variety of tasty hotdogs and cocktail combinations. The staff was also friendly & it was a great experience on our last day.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Kyiv, I would recommend the Rus Hotel – it has an accessible price & a good location – close to a metro station and various attractions.

Write a comment below if you have visited Kyiv or are planning to do so in the future. I would definitely like to make a list for my next trip there or see if my suggestions were useful for you.

Oh, and a bonus: a video performance from Kyiv is here!

Enjoy it!
